FACILITATING COLLABORATION
The Aurelian
Chicago, Illinois
We had the privilege of spearheading the design process for a prominent 31-story, 373-unit tower situated at the southeast corner of Clark and Chestnut Streets, spanning a 41,000-square-foot site. Our involvement in this project began during the Concept Design phase, where we assumed the role as the exclusive Chicago-based architecture representative on behalf of Ryan A+E, a Minnesota-based design and construction firm.
As the Chicago-based liaison, we played a pivotal role in facilitating seamless communication among various stakeholders, including Ryan Companies’ development and construction teams in Naperville, our associate architect of record (Antunovich Associates) in Chicago, and the Minneapolis-based Ryan A+E team. My responsibilities extended to participating in community presentations to secure project approval, assisting in the preparation of materials for the Planned Development submission, clarifying schematic design intents to support ongoing pricing exercises by the Ryan Construction Team, and actively engaging in coordination meetings with the consultant team.
During this collaborative endeavor, working closely with the Minneapolis architecture team, we meticulously developed the floor plans and elevations. The elevation design phase was especially noteworthy for its high degree of collaboration, resulting in a fusion of two proposed designs, which were subsequently presented to the client.

GARNERING CONSENSUS
L. William Seidman Center
Grand Valley State University
With Robert A.M. Stern Architects, we proudly completed the 125,000 sq. ft.
business school project for the Pew Campus. Our journey with this project began during the interview process, where I collaborated with a small team to craft a concept to present to the university. Together with three firm partners, I participated in the interview presentation on campus, ultimately securing the commission and being appointed as the project manager.
Beginning with programming, we believed in fostering a shared vision with the Grand Valley State University (GVSU) core team. To achieve this, we embarked on a series of enlightening tours to visit comparable business schools across the country. These tours included visits to prestigious institutions such as the Harvard Business School, the University of Michigan Ross School of Business, Bentley University Graduate School of Business, and Mason School of Business at the College of William and Mary.
As the tour leader, I took great pride in providing the GVSU core team with an immersive experience, helping them gain a profound understanding of the spaces we aimed to design for their project. This firsthand exposure was invaluable in shaping their expectations and aspirations.

INNOVATING DETAILS
Commercial Spaces
Our experience in the retail sector is exemplified by work preformed with DxDempsey in Scranton, PA. Our role was marked by active involvement in the design and construction of numerous retail projects. Throughout these endeavors, our approach consistently revolved around harnessing uncomplicated yet innovative design techniques. These techniques not only optimized each client’s budget but also elevated the quality of the customer experience, streamlining store cleanliness and operational efficiency.
An example is the Core Sundry Store at Revel
Casino, Atlantic City, where a strategic application of simple display doors keeps magazines organized and perpetually fresh. Another instance, for a boutique retail store in Scranton, PA involved an eye-catching,
straightforward design achieved by suspending simple wooden slats from the ceiling, underscoring the adage that the building itself embodies the brand. Taking that point further, for Fidelity Bank, we developed a prototype designed for seamless replication across the
brand, ensuring cohesive and efficient expansion.
